An Ode, of Sorts

I have never lived in Vancouver.
   Not really.

I lived in Hong Kong for 6 years.
   Delta for 2.
   Richmond for 17.
   London for under 1.
   Haines Junction for 2.

So when I was abroad (ha, abroad! How pretentious) or up north, and I would answer "Vancouver" to someone's query of "where are you from".... I was being a big, stinking liar.

Growing up in suburbia, I don't think I wanted for much. All my best friends lived bike rides away; we had water fights in pedestrian friendly neighborhoods; there were Mac's and Danny's for us to squander our pocket money over. My adolescence was not deprived of entertainment. I had no conception that the suburbs were drab or grey-- anything but: they were full of the hot pink of cream soda Screamers, the spring green of huge, grassy lawns to lay on.

My Best Friend's Wedding

Manveer and I love the quintessential Julia Roberts movie, "My Best Friend's Wedding."

He used to joke that the day he got married, I would realize the deep, un-nurtured feelings I'd had for him all our friendship and pull a Julia by sabotaging his wedding + beg him to marry me, instead.

We also have made promises to each other where, like the old cliché goes, if "neither one of us is married in 20 years, we'll marry each other."

----------

It's a very good thing that neither one of those sentences came true on June 8th, 2012.

Dis-ease

Source

So this is the post wherein I get a bit honest.

I've been alluding to the fact that we had a pretty tough Winter-- though only those closest to us or who live in our town would know why. It wasn't really that I was tip-toeing around the subject. It is just in my nature to hold my privacy as sacred; to be cryptic on a public forum such as this.

A Belated Week in Pictures

I have all these ideas in my head of posts and I often wander around exclaiming: I should show them pictures of this! I should write about this!

And then Monday to Friday happens, the kids get all of me, my fiancé (I was told this past weekend that I can't refer to him as my boyfriend anymore; we're officially up a relationship-level!) gets the better part of my evenings, my thousand dollar mattress gets the rest.

So I have two long posts to share with you, full of images and words and punctuation, posts that will illustrate exactly what fun things we do to fill up our time around here..........

But they don't exist yet.

So this little post on 'A Week in Pictures' will have to suffice--- even if it took place two weeks ago.

Life in Pictures

I realized recently that I haven't been taking pictures as much as I used to. There was a time when everything wonderful was documented, archived. It got to a point where I couldn't fathom having an experience without Nikki (The Nikon) by my side.

This winter, I did not pick Nikki up for months at a time.  It's hard to take pictures when you're stuck in a hard place, and the darkness looms large. It didn't seem worth it to photograph grey.

But. It's Spring again! And everything is better. So in an effort to acknowledge that, to pay tribute to beauty in the small things.. here's to the start of a more concerted effort around here to post our weekly
"Life in Pictures."

I made Banana Oat cookies sans sucre mais avec AMAZINGNESS.

Surprise dinner for B: Homemade Sprouted Quinoa bread, Mint-Pea dip, Blueberry Elk
Sausage and Apple Goat Cheese salad.
Spring! Has Sprung! It's biking time!

Brown paper parcels sent in the mail. xo

What we got up to last night: a teaser for the next blog post.

Mawage!

What am I gibberizing?

Just think back to when Buttercup and Prince Humperdink are about to be wed on 'Princess Bride'.

"Mawage is wot bwings us togeder tooday. Mawage, that bwessed awangment, that dweam wifin a dweam..."

Hours after the proposal, B & J gaze at the new rock on a certain finger.

That's right, folks. Your beloved Yukon pals, B. Green and J. Liu are getting hitched!
